Our Classic Vetkoek Mix is the same recipe we've been making and serving from our Watford kitchen, soft, golden fried dough bread with a fluffy centre and a crisp shell.

- Add the included yeast sachet and water to the mix.
- Rest the dough.
- Shape and fry until golden then slice open and fill with your favourite savoury mince, curry, cheese or try it with jam and cream.
Each pouch makes around 10–12 vetkoek.

Add lukewarm water
Yeast sachet included, flour pre-sifted. Stir to a soft dough.

Leave it an hour
Then fry a few minutes a side. They puff up on their own.

Split and fill
Mince, curry, or butter and syrup. Makes 10–12.
Goes with
Each one is ready in 25 minutes, about the time the dough takes to rise.
Add 450g mince, half an onion and water. Feeds 4–6.
Add mince, onion and water. Mixed veg or diced potato optional.
Add chicken, onion, ketchup, mayonnaise and water. Feeds 4–6.

As someone who does NOT know how to make vetkoeks, this mix has honestly changed the game!
The instructions are so easy to follow, the taste is AMAZING, and they come out so soft! Whether you have them warm or cold, they stay lafu lafu (so soft 😍).

The dough was very sticky. I expected it to be firmer. I did use the water with oil on my hands but it was very soft and sticky. I used about 260ml water.
I moved away from South Africa at a young age and always loved vetkoek, but I never got the opportunity to learn how to make them myself. Until now! I absolutely love the Cooked & Ate vetkoek mix. Everything I needed was right there, and the instructions were so easy to follow. Most importantly, they tasted exactly like the ones I grew up eating. Well where do I begin? My parcel did not even make the cupboard, straight to the kitchen I went to make mince curry and vetkoek.
